Quarry and Mine Evaluations
ALWI frequently is involved in risk assessment projects involving groundwater extraction (including both well water withdrawals and pit dewatering) and is thoroughly versed in assessing the potential impacts to properties and the water supplies (both wells and springs) attributable to such extraction practices. In this connection, specialty services we provide include:
- Forecasting the zone(s) of hydrologic influence that arise from quarry dewatering;
- Assessing the possibility of impacts to the quantity and quality of neighboring sources;
- Developing flooded quarry water sources to alleviate drought shortfalls and address growth needs;
- Quantifying the conduit groundwater flow connection between surface water bodies and quarries proposed as a supplemental municipal water source;
- Performing pumping tests and permitting evaluations focused on the use of quarry dewatering groundwater as a municipal supply; and
- Managing and coordinating the investigation and repair of sinkholes.
