Pond & Lagoon Leakage Evaluations
Ponds and lagoons used to store treated wastewater prior to ultimate land application and release may themselves release nutrients and other compounds to groundwater. New lagoons and ponds can be engineered so as to eliminate or retard leakage, as typically required to mitigate the potential for an undesired or unpermitted discharge. Existing lagoons and ponds may require retrofits with liners, but sometimes can be evaluated forensically to estimate their degree of leakage. ALWI has evaluated a variety of techniques and field procedures used to test and evaluate the hydrologic integrity of pond and lagoon liner systems
