Water Supply Permitting Services
City of Taneytown, Maryland
ALWI provided hydrogeologic characterization and water supply permitting services, broadly focused on maximizing groundwater availability and allocability. One project task involved performing a comparative feasibility evaluation of areas surrounding the City to identify the most feasible locations for additional groundwater supply exploration, development and permitting. In this connection, ALWI provided the following specific professional services:
- Feasibility studies, focused on quantifying drought-level water supply availability;
- Well siting, using hydrogeologic mapping techniques and other methods;
- Preliminary contamination threats and wellhead protection feasibility evaluations; and
- Quantitative, comparative matrix of the differential feasibility of various water supply options.
The work resulted in sets of figures and tables, cross-correlated to a feasibility matrix contrasting the prioritization of more than 137 differing drilling locations, based on hydrogeologic, regulatory, logistical and financial criteria. Other services provided to Taneytown included water capacity improvement planning and a groundwater contamination risk assessment.
